The Doctress - Asari Combat Engineer Empty
PostSubject: The Doctress - Asari Combat Engineer   The Doctress - Asari Combat Engineer EmptyThu May 19, 2016 2:32 am

FORMAT:

Steam Name: The Doctress
Steam ID: STEAM_0:1:17793196
Steam Profile Link: http://steamcommunity.com/id/TheDoctress/
Rp Experience: I dunno, a lot. 9-10 years on various mediums.
Tell me a cool Mass Effect Fact: I mean a 'cool' fact about a video game is inherently nerdy, but uhhhhh. You can buy and sell literally anything on Illium. As long as there's clear indicators to problems on the labels, and everything's legit. Even dangerous drugs, like Red Sand! Although, that said, people often tend to get lost... especially on the lower levels.

Character Name: Meyara T'Leel
Age: 943
What can your character do for our ship?: Mechanics, muscle, and some 'respectability' given her matriarchness
Character Equipment:

    Two changes of fine clothing
Two changes of poor clothing + overalls
    Two changes of casual clothes
    Standard Thessian PD SWAT armour
    M-6 Carnifex pistol
    M-23 Katana
    Combat engineer's omni-tool

Biotics:

Highly experienced with: BARRIER: Asari don't tend to make it to matriarchy without continued work on their barriers, and Meyara is no exception. STASIS: Having spent many of her years in the police department, she's learned that Stasis use often resulted in bloodless ends to conflicts. SPHERE: Unsurprisingly useful for helping principals survive when the shit hits the fan.
Experienced with: PULL: A fool and their dangerous toy are somewhat easily parted. Learned through basic environmental manipulation that every Asari faces in their long lives. LIFT: An extension of pull, with less velocity. DOMINATE: Inherently tied to the Asari ability to meld with another, most often enacted by Meyara to distract, or temporarily halt an individual from an action.
Combat capable with: THROW: An extension of pull as opposed to the traditional forward kinetic force, with which she has trouble. WARP: Learned through sheer frustration at the myriad of ways screws can break, capable of grinding through small amounts of steel. NOVA: As an extension of basic biotic CQC fighting, powerful enough to make people stumble or potentially lose their feet.
Only passing capability with other easy to grasp biotic talents (singularity, orbs, lash). Not of combat concern.

Moral Alignment: Lawful neutral
Strengths:

Powerful biotic: Biotics are essential to prolonged Asari life, and through experience comes affinity. In terms of biotic affinity, she is comparable to any other matriarch, often falling on them in place of physical strength in combat.
    Adaptive: Time marches inexorably forward, and if one does not change with the times, one does not march forward with it. Meyara holds no issue with abandoning a plan for a more favourable one, or an opinion if properly convinced. This also allows her to understand and adapt to new systems, both physical and software. However, without the convincing, she tends to be rather;
Strong willed: If T'leel says she is going to do something, it gets done unless she personally feels it would be unwise. One might also call this gumption.

Weaknesses:

Seen too much: Governments are as corrupt or vicious as any individual. Meyara has seen this first hand, and as a result finds it hard to trust any groups, even those with favourable reputations.
Asocial: In her advanced years, she has grown to find small talk tedious and frustrating. As a result, she is typically several steps removed from 'being one of the guys'.
Emotionally muted: Many friends die over the better part of a millenium. It's gotten to the point where investing herself emotionally tends to be more of a hassle than a boon. This has lead to a fair bit of social exiling, as she responds without visible emotive reaction most times, leading to a reputation as an ice-queen.
Restrictive public persona: Nobody wants to be the next Benezia. Especially with her fuck up so fresh in everyone's memory.
Restrictive moral code: 'To protect and serve' got a little too deeply drilled into her, now she won't hurt anyone unarmed and will defy orders that clash with that, or her other sensibilities.

Character Backstory:
Meyara's first century was by no means an easy one, though it certainly did set the stage for her life to come. Born to unready parents, and either neglected or outright abused for a majority of her childhood, T'leel took an early leave from home, and joined the adult community on Thessia at a scant forty. Most above-board companies refused to hire someone as young as her, and so instead she bounced between crappy, under-the-table jobs to scrape enough credits together for a roof and a meal. Some nights, only one of the two were avaliable, and it wasn't always shelter. And so, fed up with the instability, at ninety-four she joined a band of mercenaries, at that point contracted for private security.

However, Meyara's morals began peeking through early, and she found life as a hired killer to be rather distasteful. While precisely who she was working for had never bothered her, their particular orders sometimes did. At a hundred and four years of age, T'leel's unit received orders to violently put down an ecological protest outside of some port in Asari colonial space. As one might expect, their targets were unarmed, and the Asari maiden had resigned in disgust over the matter. Instead, she committed herself to the other side of the thin blue line, and joined the Thessian federal police department, finding the work truly fulfilling, and easily keeping enough interest to carry her through to her third century.

It was in that third century that her superiors grew more and more attentive to her record. Her body count was reliably low, and her arrests judicial and bearing the infrequency of it being her last resort, despite the fact that she had been a member of their high-risk entry unit for some time. At two-hundred and four, she earned a Captain's position in her local precinct and unfortunately lost some of her sociability to the rigors of command. In her two-eighties, however, she felt the desire to see more, and so signed on with a more reputable private security firm, hired to repel pirates and raiders on mining or science installations.

Seventy years in space served to temper her somewhat, and brought her relative clarity from her previously rather monotoned life as a police officer. Station security was more than simple policing, and given her experience included things such as vetting new employees, and clearing out pockets of indiginous monsters. However, as with all things, it was not to last, and her biological drive urged her Thessia, for the stability to have a child. Her mind, and her past, however, were at odds with this. Public perception of her was in turn at odds with that. In the end, thirty years of internal conflict and external shaming was enough, and she committed herself to a colony as, once again, security.

At this point, her chosen colony of Illium was still primitive and new, with most of the security work was contracted out for defending construction teams from native wildlife. Amidst the carnivores and strange wildlife, there were many moments of peace, though, and the formerly monoskilled Asari frequently volunteered to directly help with the construction of her new home. The colony grew strong over next 100 years, rising out of the dirt into the first skyscrapers and becoming a lively trade hub between Asari space, and the Terminus systems.

However, everything eventually changes, and Illium's underbelly grew darker and darker as the surface grew larger. Incensed by the murkier happenings in Illium lower levels, Meyara started a personal security firm, hiring herself out to investigate disappearances. She was hardly a trained detective, but tended to find a majority of her targets, and if she could not, their loved ones weren't charged. She found herself in more than a few fights, most bloodless. Those that weren't were slightly troublesome for the PI, as Illium was hardly the frontier by this point.

After roughly a further century of operating on her own terms, nature decided to alter the deal. Due to pretty much never melding with anyone, her figure drifted towards that of a Matriarch, and her biotics intensified. Illium grew far too dirty and large for Meyara to continue cleaning up and so she abandoned her business and instead made her way to the Citadel. As any person with policing experience might consider, she signed on to the illustrious Citadel Security, looking to make a difference alongside a team. Regretably, C-Sec was almost nothing like the Thessian PD, with suspects being abused, and deals with syndicate leaders hashed out by high ranking C-Sec members. Her trust in public reputations was utterly shattered. After all, here was the renowned police force of the galaxy's capital being about as underhanded as a Salarian stalker. Her resignation was tendered a scant week after the discovery of the extent of the bribery and corruption.

And so, she abandoned the Citadel, instead flitting between colonies on the periphery of species' space. At some point, during her time at her first colony, a small Turian settlement, she realised just how little she truly knew of the outside world, having been so concentrated on internal Asari affairs, and vowed to spend at least a decade with each space faring race, observing them as an anthropologist might. Being an unattached observer inevitably caused her to become somewhat asocial, though there was always one or two people who were as outside the bubble as she, and a few lasting connections were made wherever she wandered.

But seeing so much of the galaxy also gave light to many of the internal issues each race was facing on their own. In turn, for the better part of a century, she committed herself to writing about various legal wrongdoing in the galaxy as an investigative journalist, covering live sapient testing, extrajudicial killings, genocide, and other things scientific and government secret keepers didn't want exposed. Hardly famous, she wasn't exactly protected as her work began to break, and when the better part of a century did not see much progress, she ultimately decided her work was an inefficient waste of her time and vowed to spend her last centuries seeing the universe from as many points of view as she could.

Thus, as her latest century rolled around, she found herself working ship security and maintenance for the better part of twenty years. After the Turians engaged in a war with the newly contacted humans, she revisted her earlier vow, and spent a decade with mankind, to try and understand them, too. After her renewed research though, she again faded as far into obscurity as she could. A thousand years of people speaking her name had left her with a soft, though galactic sized, reputation as a skilled peacekeeper, and truthful individual. Many ports seemed to mistaken this for her being inclined to follow their laws, but as the odd smuggling crew might say, her own morals on corruption and oppression trump some silly little man with a pen.

Extra notes: I hate applications. I don't know if the biotic thing applies to an inherently biotic race, but whatever. I don't really want to put more effort into something that's ultimately going to be discarded.

I'd like to see the backstory in a more understandable and readable format - what you are using makes it incredibly hard to understand the character or digest anything about them.

The age is my only real problem. I feel like having another matriarch on the ship might be too much.

With all respect, I can't particularly be bothered rewriting my backstory again. No complaints if you don't want to accept my app, but I'm not really motivated to change it.

He's not in position to deny or accept your applications, don't worry.

I honestly feel as though this was improved greatly, I appreciate what steps Doctress took to improve their application.

I have no problems with her being a Matriarch as long as she does not thrown it around nor use it as some kind of OP advantage.

Taking all of these things into account.
